Anyone remember the hysterectomy/vasectomy for repeat offenders thread? I was thinking about that thread last night.
A few people in there were saying that if we would have done that during their parents youth, they wouldn't be alive.
One person I know has said, concerning abortion, that the fetus that is being aborted doesn't know it's being aborted. It has never lived, so it doesn't care what happens to it.
Last night I had this crazy idea...
The person that strongly argued the OP in that thread feels that way about abortion...
What's the difference between abortion and this?
Besides the fact that we would be preventing criminals from having children.
It's still a choice, though.
The criminal made a choice to commit the crimes he/she did, knowing the consiquences.
Just like woman make the choice to abort the child.
I really do like the idea of sterilizing criminals.
If this person had never been born, they wouldn't know it, right?
What does it matter what caused the person not to be born?
If that's what makes abortion okay, why doesn't it make forced sterilization okay?
Just a thought I had...

| Because you are f***ing with a persons body AGAINST their will.
And you aren't allowing someone the potantial to grow as a person and change their ways. |

Ditto. You cannot tell someone what they can and can't do with their own bodies. And just because they are criminals, does not mean they won't make great parents down the road.
People that want to change, do change. |

| My mom was going to abort me anyway, so yeah, I wouldn't know the difference. I agrue that point a lot. The point is, the person who made that thread made people who have drug/alcohol issues out to be horrible parents, and THAT is why I got offended. All 3 of my parents are drug abusers and alcoholics. Mom is recovered, dad still drinking, and Linda; I hate her.
But I know my mom and dad love me, and what the OP said was totally wrong and unjust.
AND the topic had nothing to do with abortion, so bringing that into the scenario was wrong of you. |

| They still made the decision to break the laws they did.
Whether they change or not doesn't matter in my opinion... but...
If the person can change, then why should we allow them to decide to have an abortion?
They could change their mind later.
They could become a totally different person soon after that and regret having an abortion. |

Or they could not. Like my mom. Abortion at 16 and she's still pro-choice. She did what she had to do.
We can't interfere with people's innermost personal aspects of their lives.
Not every person who has had an abortion is a cold, heartless monster. My mom isn't. She's one of the nicest and loving people I have ever met.
Having and abortion doesn't sterilize you btw.
Yeah, someone who was sterilzed could be happy with it down the line, or they could not. But you can't FORCE it on someone, just like you can't FORCE anyone to have an abortion.
Forcing someone to do anything isn't right. |

Nevertheless, it's still wrong. It's cruel and unusual punishment.
That is your opinion.
I do not agree with you. That is my opinion.
I may be wrong, but it is still the way I feel. |

And who is to say the addicts will change?
Do you have a better idea about this?
A way to keep people who may harm a child from having children? |

There's a 50/50 chance. My mom changed, my dad didn't.
That's why we have social services. |
