Cryptic topic titles

I'm guilty of this myself, but what's with people posting cryptic titles to threads. Like, 'Is that right?' 'Why...?' 'This is interesting' 'Not sure...' and the like. Sometimes the topics are really weird and not something I would've read if I'd known what it was about. So, it essentially wastes my time.
Why don't we all just post the title as what the thread is actually about. Like, "Oil spill" "My cat died" "What helps a headache feel better, cuz this migraine hurts like a motha?" etc.
I just think things'd run a lot smoother, I dunno. Just a thought.

I hate that too! I try to make my topic titles at least somewhat indicative of what the post is about.

I sort of do it cause I want to catch ppl's attention... maybe I'm worried that no one will read it if it doesn't have a "catchy" title??

i make the topic either what the thread is about or how i feel. unless its an experiment.

Mine seem to be clear e.g. "why do dictators have mustaches" or "hitler:evil or just misunderstood" and then easy ones like "Led Zeppelin" or "the Who". To be honest i couldn't tell what this topic was about till i read it, i thought it was going to be some game where you would have to guess the topic based on a criptic clue.

I get what you mean. Yeah, that does get people's attention, but it might annoy them when they actually read the thread and it's something they wouldn't usually be interested in. That's not to say that your particular thread isn't interesting, just not that person's cup of tea.

Yeah, I guess this title was pretty cryptic. But that's just illustrating my point, see. I'm lame.

i thought this was gonnabe a game but yeah topic titles should be a rule of thumb tend to give you a bit of an idea as to what the topic is about - it's good forum manners
