Ignorance may be bliss in some cases, but hard as it may be to stomach or even understand, these things happen
everywhere, not only in China, Indonesia or Cambodia. Yes... these places are too blatant about certain practices - thus the availability of the graphic scenes for the viewing of the general public; but in states like Japan, Russia, and even in the US; animals have been cruelly exploited for their fur, so-called 'medicinal properties' and even as delicacies.
Of course, the widespread occurence does not make it right. However, cruel as it may be, I doubt people will continue these abhorrent acts if
there isn't a demand for it. I think the true solution to completely eradicating these cruel inhumane acts is for people to realise that faux fur looks just as good as the real stuff! Wear fur if you must (personally I have never seen the 'appeal' of a fur draped woman - and fur just gives me the itches) but be aware of the animals that have sacrificed their lives so that you may wear something that you
think looks good.
...And take the
Kobe beef - a specialty from Japan and served in fine restaurants around the world. Whilst it is such a coveted delicacy due to its melt-in-your-mouth consistency, I doubt people really know how the particular beef is derived. Calfs are imprisoned in tiny cages (only as big as their bodies) and fed fatty foods and grains consistently every few hours. They grow - but due to the lack of exercise and immobility, their muscles cannot be developed... leaving them with a sluggish, fatty body till they are slaughtered just prior to expiring from overfeeding. People still rave about Kobe beef anyhow, although I suspect it's more due to ignorance than anything else.
...and the world continues revolving, we go on being blissfully unaware - oblivious to these.
